    Overview:
    This four-day course split over two workshops has been specifically designed for dentists wishing to start their journey in dental implantology.
    Workshop one will empower you to restore single unit and short span bridge implant supported prosthesis. Understanding the prosthetic aspect of dental implantology prepares the clinician to become a prosthetically driven implant surgeon.
    Workshop two focuses on the surgical aspects of basic single unit implant placements. The attendees will be supported post course to build confidence in tackling their first cases in a safe manner. Attendees may treat their own patients at the academy under clinical supervision.
    The course is a combination of theory, hands on sessions on manikins and animal models, live patient demonstrations and online tutorials.

    Workshop 1 – Introduction to Dental Implants and
    Implant Restorations

    Day 1 – 16th February 2024

    1. Introduction to dental implants and the role of the general dentist
    2. Rationale for implants
    3. Understanding dental implant terminology
    4. Implant designs and their connections
    5. The difference between dental implants and natural teeth
    6. Impression taking using open and closed tray systems and digital scan bodies
    7. Patient and Site assessment for implant planning
    8. Hands on implant impression taking workshop

    Day 2 – 17th February 2024

    1. Prosthetically driven treatment planning
    2. Lab communicating and designing implant prosthesis
    3. Screw versus cement retained restorations
    4. Processes for insertion of implant prosthesis
    5. Maintenance of implant prosthesis
    6. Trouble shooting common prosthetic complications
    7. Atraumatic tooth extraction techniques
    8. Basic socket preservation – why, when and how

    Workshop 2 – Introduction to Dental Implant Surgery

    Day 1 – 22nd March 2024

    1. Introduction to implant surgery
    2. Basic flap designs and surgical techniques
    3. Surgical setup and instruments
    4. Osteotomy preparation and implant placement protocols
    5. The BioHorizon Implant range and indications
    6. The use of surgical guides in implant dentistry
    7. Hands on suturing workshop

    Day 2 – 23rd March 2024

    1. Surgical techniques for implant second stage surgery
    2. The use of Resonance Frequency Analysis in implantology
    3. Debunking the misconceptions in implant surgeries
    4. Preventing marginal bone loss around dental implants
    5. Trouble shooting common surgical complications and post
    operative management
    6. Hands on surgical workshop using pig jaws for socket preservation,
    surgical implant placement and second stage surgeries

    Live Patients
    1. Insertion of implant crown
    2. Single implant placement with and without surgical guide
    3. Soft tissue management during second stage surgery

    Students of this Workshop:

    Will have the opportunity to book up to four Live Patient Clinical Sessions. Each session includes 2 hours of theatre time with Dr Sheng for $1900 ex GST per session. Each dentist is welcome to bring their assistant along for additional complimentary training during the
    procedure from Dr Sheng’s expert surgical assistant, Allie. The student can select their own patient, friend or family member and treatment plan the case with Dr Sheng prior to each Clinical Session.
