An Update on Modern Periodontal Management

Periodontitis is a chronic multifactorial inflammatory disease associated with dysbiotic dental biofilms. Periodontitis is a major public health problem due to its high prevalence and negative effect on chewing function and aesthetics. It is estimated half of the worlds population have periodontitis with approximately 10% of the population exhibiting a severe form.

During this morning I would like to share with you the current understanding of periodontal disease and the most evidence based management systems for chronic periodontitis. A review of the 2017 Classification of Periodontal Disease will be explored. A morning of education on non surgical therapies which can be provided in all general practice settings and for those cases that require specialised management, the surgical and regenerative options available to your patients.

Learning outcomes

  • Explore and develop a deep understanding for the 2017 Periodontal Disease Classification.
  • Evidence based management of periodontal disease including assessment, treatment, and maintenance in general practice.
  • Introduction to Minimally Invasive Non-Surgical Therapies (MINST).
  • Develop an understanding of surgical management of periodontal cases including respective surgeries and regenerative therapies.
